Opinions on Nexus Devices and Chromebook Pixel

Wow. It's been two months. I really need to commit to this.

Back to the main article.

Since the release of the new Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, I have been thinking about why google holds such a Category of devices. Same with the Chromebook Pixel. Why would Google spend so much money and time on a product that they no will not succeed. After thinking about some of the purposes of these devices, it occurred to me that during Google I/O 2013, a Pixel was given to all the attendees. Why would Google do this?

Most of these attendees being developers (and rest being press),  Google wants them to build more powerful "desktop applications" for Chrome. Having very unique and powerful hardware such as a super high resolution touchscreen and microphone array in a very beautiful package, allows for developers to make software for the future. So really this is a web developers (not designers) always-connected dream. Now with many editors and IDE's now available on Chrome OS, this allows for a great web experience. For example my good friend Blake Ford made an open-sore AVR emulator chrome extension on a Samsung Chromebook with only javascript. (Check him out at www.github.com.blakewford).

Now for the Nexus situation, if you notice, Google normally announce the new devices at the end of the year with amazing specifications that are usually seen on flagship phones the following year on Samsung and HTC phone. Though Google makes big bucks from Samsung, HTC, and LG phones, they want give developers time to make better and more powerful applications for the platform that matters the most to them, Android.

Hey guys. My name is Sainath Krishnamurthy and I am a developer, engineer, designer, and freelance musician. I go to the Elkins Engineering Academy where I focus in Computer Science, Industrial Design, and Electrical Engineering. I love doing Arduino Projects on my spare time. Also I love following consumer electronics (which as you will see will be very evident).  Stay tuned for more and on a closing note.....the future is going to be awesome.
